Additional Events
Topgolf Scholarship Event
ITS Texas is pleased to announce that our annual scholarship event will be a twist on the traditional golf tournament. After all the positive feedback on the Topgolf Event at the 2017 ITS Texas Annual Meeting, we are pleased to announce another event at Topgolf for a scholarship fundraiser and social event on the evening of Wednesday, November 13 (rain or shine – hot or cold, this is golf in comfort with a roof and climate control).
Activities start at 6:30 pm with registration and warm up. At 7:00 pm a full fajita dinner will be served on the Tee Line. Dinner includes beef and chicken fajitas, cilantro rice, chipotle braised black beans, tortillas, and all the fixings. Bottomless soda, iced tea, coffee and water are included with your meal.
At 7:15 pm the tournament begins with a shotgun start consisting of two games. Teams of three players will compete in the tournament for about an hour and a half, but two hours of continuous play is included for everyone participating. We’ll follow up with a 19th hole awards ceremony featuring team awards, closest to the pin and longest drive awards.
The fee is $100.00 per participant. Two drink tickets will be provided to each participant for wine, beer or mixed drinks.
Sponsorships for this scholarship fundraising event are available; we welcome sponsorships from our ITS Vendor Group and from our member firms. Proceeds go to scholarships for graduate students in Texas universities preparing for dedicated careers in the ITS field. ITS Texas awards an average of over $5000 each year in scholarships to deserving graduate students enrolled in an ITS related curriculum at a Texas university. Your participation in the annual meeting and your generous sponsorship of events like this allow us to sustain this tradition.
Training
Audience: Transportation operations/traffic engineers or managers, public or private who want a better understanding of Improving Highway Safety with ITS, and additional topics.
The ITS Texas Board of Directors is pleased to announce that our training in conjunction with the Annual Meeting is “Improving Highway Safety with ITS.” ITS America developed the course with several experienced industry professionals; as the time nears we will know which ones will be leading our class.
This 4-hour course is an introduction to ITS-based strategies and tools available for improving highway safety and is divided into six lessons, each intended to introduce or illustrate concepts relating to the development and deployment of ITS strategies to address safety issues. This course also focuses on how to incorporate ITS strategies as part of the safety planning process, and provides real-world examples of solutions used to address safety challenges. The course is intended for ITS project managers, transportation operations, and safety professionals, including, but not limited to, planners, operators, designers, emergency management, and maintenance personnel.
At the conclusion of “Improving Highway Safety with ITS,” two Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) engineers will provide brief updates and lead Q&A discussions on two statewide initiatives that involve state and local public agencies and private companies: Transportation Systems Management and Operations (TSMO) by Marco Cameron; and the Texas Connected and Automated Vehicle Task Force updates by Jianming Ma.
The training is scheduled for 8:30 am to 5:00 pm on Wednesday, November 13, 2019. Coffee and pastries will be provided for the class starting at 8:00. There will be a 90-minute break for lunch on your own; there are several options in and nearby the Omni Mandalay.
