September 24-25, 2019
Center for Infrastructure Renewal (CIR)1041 RELLIS Parkway
Bryan, Texas 77807
This workshop will cover the details of both flexible and rigid pavement design as described in the Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT’s) Pavement Design Manual. For flexible pavement design it will focus on applications of both MODULUS 7 and FPS 21 which is the only approved flexible pavement design software permitted by TxDOT. For Rigid design it will explain the procedures which are based on the AASHTO design procedure for Jointed Pavements and TxCRCP-ME for Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavements.
This will be problem oriented training where the students will process multiple real-world design problems where each of the required inputs will be described in detail. The students will also process data sets collected with the Falling Weight Deflectometer to provide input moduli values needed for FPS 21. This class will also cover the Potential Vertical Rise (PVR), Texas Triaxial Check and Mechanistic Empirical procedures. The contents of a typical Pavement Design report will be described and an overview of Non-Destructive Testing, traffic data, soils classification, overlay design and Full Depth Reclamation (FDR) principles will be included.
Handout: Each student will receive the latest versions of TxDOT software and a set of class notes with example problems. Tours of the CIR facility and demonstrations of commonly used test procedures will also be included in the workshop.
Before arrival at the class, each student will be required to pre-load the software onto their own laptop computer, and they will bring that computer with them.
Intended Audience: Contractors and Consultants interesting in performing pavement design work for TxDOT. Also anyone interested in learning about the latest pavement evaluation and design tools.
